Ceredigion Sustainable Development Limited (CSD) was formed in 2015 with the vision of designing and building high quality affordable homes in and around the university town of Aberystwyth in mid- Wales.
The directors of CSD believe in the development of affordable housing for local people. The general nationwide perception of affordable housing is housing produced to a lower specification, with poorer build quality homes. CSD directors ensure that exacting build standards are maintained, so that all affordable housing on their developments cannot be distinguished as affordable and that they are finished to the same specification, with the same facilities as properties sold on the open market.
Collectively the directors of CSD have been responsible for the construction and development of over 250 houses and apartments in Aberystwyth and the surrounding areas.
With a wide range of projects including a mix of older property refurbishments and ground-up new builds on both green-field and brown-field sites, the directors of CSD have seen many trends and developments come and go over the years.
Now with the ever-increasing need for resource efficiency and cost-effective sustainability, the demand for homes which embrace new technologies and set new standards in fuel efficiency and energy consumption is becoming ever more desirable, if not essential. Many of the most recent developments and plans for future developments include numerous innovative features.
These innovations include electric wet central heating systems operating from a thermal store powered by dual tariff electricity. On the Ger-y-Cwm Development in Penrhyncoch all properties are built with integrated in-roof solar panels, which supply any unused sustainable electricity back into the national grid. On the first sale, the Ger-y-Cwm properties are sold with the electricity supplied by Scottish Power who market themselves as only supplying electricity from a sustainable source throughout mid-Wales.
